Communication board for the doctor’s office
Waiting room, appointment, dentist, vaccine: saying what you feel, where it hurts, asking for a break and asking “will it hurt?” and “how much longer?”.

What it is for
Appointments, dentist, tests, vaccines: new places, new people and a lot of waiting. This board gives the person a way to say they are scared, ask for a break, show where it hurts and ask what will happen, and gives the professional a way to explain by pointing. It works in a family’s bag and at the front desk of clinics and health centres.
How to use it, in three steps
- Before going in, show the board and point to what will happen: “first wait, then the doctor, then home”.
- During the visit, ask by pointing (“does it hurt here?”, “want a break?”) and wait; accept pointing, gaze or a gesture.
- Agree on a signal for “wait” and honour it: someone who knows they can ask for a break cooperates more.
